Interim Semester
An interim semester means that a student is allowed to take a semester off (6 months) while remaining matriculated at the university.
Reasons for taking an interim semester according to the law (Art. 48 Abs. 2 Satz 1 BayHschG) are in particular:
- A confirmed medical condition or illness if it would keep the individual from following a normal course of studies,
- Circumstances that would allow women in places of employment to claim maternity leave and/or parental leave after the birth of a child,
- Completion of a voluntary internship that is relevant to the course of studies but not required within the normal programme of study,
Other reasons may be given in individual cases after close evaluation.
Economic circumstances are normally not allowed as an important reason.

Please use the following form to apply for an Interim Semester.
This request must be submitted to the relevant clerk in the Studienzentrum at the latest 4 weeks after the beginning of the semester.
Please note:
Sollten Sie ein Urlaubssemester planen, müssen Sie sich in jedem Fall rückmelden. Sie brauchen keine Studienbeiträge bezahlen. Dennoch ist der Studentenwerksbeitrag von derzeit 42,- Euro ist dennoch an die Staatsoberkasse Bayern zu überweisen.
